MEIN TINTO 2021

Meín Tinto 2021 is made with caíño longo, garnacha tintorera, brancellao, sousón, ferrón and caíño tinto from small plots in the surroundings of Leiro and Pazos de Arenteiro, in the narrowest and northernmost part of the Avia valley, in the abrupt orography between Pazos de Arenteiro and Leiro, marked by the particular Atlantic climate with intense inland thermal oscillations. The winemaking is done separately, with fractions of each variety and each plot in stainless steel, oak and concrete tanks. A wine that brings us closer to the local red varieties of the Avia Valley. The reflection of a changing climate. Wild character. Wild nature.

The winter of 2021 was rainy, accumulating a large amount of precipitation from the end of January to the beginning of March. Budbreak came at the end of that month, combined with high rainfall, which meant that special demands were made on the management of each plot. Sunshine and warmth appeared at the end of July, facilitating optimal development of the vineyard. The year was heading towards an uncomplicated harvest until September, when several days of adverse weather conditions made harvesting difficult. Both in the vineyard and in the winery, all the grapes were selected cluster by cluster to ensure the exact ripening point and maximum quality in the winemaking process. The 2021 harvest of the red varieties began on September 23 and ended on September 30.

The Avia valley is dotted with a historical wealth of red varieties. The sousón, brancellao, caíño longo and caíño redondo vines share space with the rest of nature and recall a past in which the presence of vines on these soils was the majority. The abrupt orography and the wild flora among which the river flows in its northern area keep the reality of this landscape.

Meín Tinto 2021 is the evolution of O Pequeno. The meticulous viticulture carried out by Viña Meín – Emilio Rojo in the different plots with their different exposures and slopes ends with a selective harvest of the vines that are at the optimum ripening stage. Meín Tinto 2021 is made with caíño longo, garnacha tintorera, brancellao, sousón, ferrón and caíño tinto from small plots in the surroundings of Leiro and Pazos de Arenteiro, in the narrowest and northernmost part of the Avia valley. Meín Tinto 2021 maintains the precision required by the heterogeneity of this area with separate elaborations by varieties and plots in stainless steel, concrete and wood tanks. It was aged with continuous batônages.
