O Gran Meín Tinto 2020
The fall of 2019 and winter of 2020 were rainy and cold. Spring started with pleasant weather, which caused a three-week advance in the cycle. The end of April and May accumulated a large amount of precipitation, as usual in the area. This spring in particular, the vineyard required very precise management. With the arrival of summer, hot and dry weather promoted good vineyard health. The harvest of the red grapes began on September 14 and ended on September 16. The 2020 vintage will be easy to remember for the level of demand it placed on the team and for the experience they gained.
The influence of the Galician climate is crucial for the Ribeiro red varieties. The Osebe and Ribeira plots, in the passageway to the north of the Avia valley, have an eastern or nascent orientation, as it is known locally. The brancellao and caíño longo plots achieved distinct Atlantic characterestics and optimal ripening. The
viticulture inherited from centuries of red wine tradition utilizes the leaves as protection against the sun, allowing for a unique ageing capacity. A trip to the historical past of Ribeiro red wine in which the winegrower risked each new vintage to achieve a more special and genuine elaboration.
O Gran Meín Tinto 2020 is made with brancellao and caíño longo from the northernmost area of the Avia Valley. The grapes are harvested in 12kg boxes and taken to the winery. Each plot, with its own character, is elaborated separately from the rest, forcing fermentations of very limited quantities of grapes. In relation
to the characteristics of each grape, the elaboration and aging will be carried out separately in stainless steel tanks of different capacities. For greater protection, the wine contains sulfites. After aging for approximately ten months, this wine was bottled in the spring of 2021. The wine aged 24 months in bottle before release.
